University Decisions

It has now come to the time to make decisions about a university, which is very daunting to a 16-year-old. I have decided to write a post about all the different universities offering the course of Textile Design for people in my position as well as for me to clear my mind about what each university offers. I have linked each course web page as well, so make sure you take a look.

Edinburgh:

  • Four-year course
  • BBB A-Level entry requirement
  • Opportunities to work abroad and work experience placements
  • Chances to enter competitions, exhibitions, and industry collaborations
  • Links with designers

Falmouth:

  • Three-year course
  • BBB A-Level entry requirement
  • Chance to visit trade fairs such as Première Vision in Paris and Pitti Filati in Florence
  • Connections with the likes of John Lewis, Liberty Art Fabrics, and BBC Costume Department

Loughborough:

  • Three-year course with the option of an additional placement/study year abroad
  • ABB A-Level entry requirement
  • Can alter the course with the choice of optional modules
  • Range of newer digital technologies
  • Extensive links with industry

Leeds:

  • Three-year course
  • ABB A-Level entry requirement
  • Mandatory work placement
  • Study abroad option
  • Design History module

Nottingham-Trent:

  • Three-year course
  • BBC A-Level entry requirement
  • Industry competitions with companies such as Next, Fat Face, and H&M
  • Visit international trade shows such as Première Vision
  • Chance to exhibit at New Designers in London

Birmingham:

  • Three-year course
  • BBC A-Level entry requirement
  • Textiles in Historical Context module
  • Next Step module to bridge gap between study and industry
  • Optional international study visit

I hope these simplifies things as I know that looking at the university websites can be a little confusing. Writing this has helped me to compare each university against each other and I hope it helps you.
