Fabric manipulation is one of the hardest techniques I have ever done. I find I like the outcome of the technique but not the process. It is a very fiddly technique and you have to be very patient. I have been investigating this technique because I want to use it as part of my architecture project, but due to the unsucessfulness of it, it is most likely that I will not use it.
This technique is very useful to portray architectural materials such as bricks, roof tiles and windows. However, you can see with the successfulness of the samples that I struggled with this technique. I realised that the calico might be too stiff so you don’t get the definition but the top left sample of smocking is the most successful.
