Second year was a bit of a whirlwind for us Textiles gals. It obviously ended with the Coronavirus pandemic craziness, but nonetheless, this was the best year yet coursewise.
I’m gonna do it very similarly to my previous post about first year, of which, you can find here, if you want to check it out.
Friends:
Over this second year, our little textiles family has become more and more close. Its been lovely to get to know each other in a more sisterly way. We have also been through all of the emotions together, like crying, extreme happiness, anger etc. But I am so happy that I have these girls to support me and that I am able to support them.
Through them, I have also been able to meet other people and friends. I have actually been able to go out and do things that I have always wanted to do such as go to a poetry night, attend a fashion society party and go and get pizza at 9pm.
Obviously, Coronavirus has prevented us from seeing each other as much during this summer, but we have consistently been texting and calling during this weird period.
The Course:
This year, the course hasn’t felt so overwhelming. We have been able to really get to know our work rather than focusing on how to submit assignments or figure out what we can use in the print room.
However, the course definitely upped its game in the first semester of second year. I think the other girls would agree with me that it was the repeat print project that really tipped us over in those first couple of months of term. But we got through it with the help of each other and you can find out about the whole experience, here.
Looking after ourselves:
We have definitely been able to look after ourselves better this year. University takes a lot of time to get used to, especially being away from home and looking after yourself. But, I feel like I just about have the gist of it now.
We also know how to look after each other within our little unit, even if it just a little call here and there or buying an ice cream tub to share on the way home from uni one day.
I am so looking forward to living with some of these girls in the upcoming year and just to get back to making and creating.
