Hello!

My name is Layla and I am a third year Textile Design student, studying at the University of Edinburgh.

As a designer I am inspired by my own experiences from travelling, culture and life events. I find I am drawn to creating a cultural atmosphere in my work. I record this through keeping many sketchbooks and taking photographs. These initial workings are then developed with the use of colour, shape and line, as reflected in my textile designs.

I enjoy experimenting and discovering new techniques. I could never commit to just one as they all offer something new and different to designs. I like to have a hands on approach towards making textiles, focusing on textures created through weaving, knitting and sewing.
